PERU, Ind. (AP) — A wind-energy project appears to be in jeopardy after Miami County commissioners said an ordinance requiring space behind between turbines and property lines will take effect next week. The Kokomo Tribune reports that a Monday meeting of commissioners was very tense; one spectator was expelled.
RES, an international renewable energy company, had proposed 75 turbines in the northern part of the county, about 80 miles north of Indianapolis. A new ordinance would require 2,000 feet between turbines and property lines.
Commissioner Larry West says the project already was slipping, based on communications with the company. He says RES indicated there were technical problems connecting it to the electrical grid.
West says the company has skipped getting road and economic development agreements.
